About us

As parents ourselves we know what an important decision childcare is, and our aim is to create a fun place where children can make new friends and experience and discover new things. As you search for answers to help you with your plans for your child we wanted to give you a little background as to how Discoveries Crèche & Montessori School came about:
Liz Mahon
Liz has worked in the childcare sector since 1996. Before this Liz completed a BA Honours Degree from UCD. During these studies Liz was first introduced to child development and education. Following her graduation she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanities in Montessori in St. Nicholas Montessori College Dun Laoghaire. Liz took up a position as a Montessori teacher in Blackrock and thoroughly enjoyed using the method with all the children she came in contact with. This spurred her on to further her studies and she soon gained her Childcare and Crèche Management certificate.
On taking over the lease and the daily operations of the Crèche and Montessori school she taught in, Liz quickly set about implementing modern childcare philosophy putting the child at the centre of how the Crèche operated. This included policies and procedures to improve and monitor standards to ensure a quality service.
Lena O'Sullivan
Before focusing her career in the care of pre-school children, Lena had a distinguished career in the educational software sector, concentrating on the developing content for CD and Online courseware for the pre-primary and primary school market as General Manager of Riverdeep Interactive Ltd. Development Centre in Dublin. Lena's work in developing software for the education of children led to her pursuing a post graduate diploma in the Montessori Method.
It was during her studies that she met Liz and found a fellow passionate believer in Montessori education, positive environments and high quality childcare and discovering how like minded they were about childcare they decided to establish Discoveries! Lena completed her diploma with a 1st Class Honours from St. Nicholas Montessori College Dun Laoghaire and taught alongside Liz in their first Discoveries Crèche in Blackrock.
In 2004 they opened the doors to their service in Firhouse to a great response in the local area, and is now a well established service in the community. In September 2009 their new purpose-built crèche & Montessori began running in Shankill Village. It has also had great local response, and has quickly become an integral part of the Shankill, Loughlinstown and Bray neighbourhoods.
